Double Garlic Honey Smoked Turkey Breast Recipe
Double Garlic, Honey-Kissed Smoked Turkey Breast Recipe
Two layers of garlic. A subtle touch of honey. One incredibly flavorful smoked turkey breast.
There are two kinds of people at the dinner table: those who love garlic and those who haven't tasted the right garlic turkey yet.
This recipe might change that.
I'm David Bouska, a two-time World BBQ Champion and Barbecue Hall of Fame inductee. When I build a turkey recipe, I want flavor all the way through the meat, not just seasoning sitting on the skin.
That's why this smoked turkey breast recipe uses three Butcher BBQ products, each doing a different job. Whether you're learning how to smoke a turkey breast for Thanksgiving or preparing a family dinner, the secret to tender, juicy meat is building flavor inside and out. Our Honey Bird Booster Injection, Garlic Honey Rub, and Garlic Butter Grilling Oil work together to create a smoked turkey breast packed with savory garlic flavor and a subtle touch of honey.
First, Butcher BBQ Bird Booster Honey Injection brings a mild, sweet flavor into the turkey breast. Next, Butcher BBQ Garlic Honey Rub creates a sweet-savory garlic crust. Finally, Butcher BBQ Garlic Butter Grilling Oil adds buttery richness and another layer of garlic flavor.
I call it Double Garlic, Honey-Kissed Turkey.
The garlic lovers get the flavor they crave, while the honey brings just enough sweetness to balance the savory seasoning. Even family members who don't usually ask for extra garlic may find themselves coming back for another slice.
Why This Smoked Turkey Breast Recipe Works
Turkey breast is lean, which means it can dry out when cooked too long. And unlike turkey thighs, it doesn't have much fat to help protect the meat.
That's where the injection comes in.
Bird Booster Honey Injection seasons the turkey from the inside. Its mild honey flavor complements the garlic without making the finished turkey taste like dessert.
Garlic Honey Rub provides the outside seasoning. As the turkey cooks, the garlic and honey notes develop into a flavorful crust.
Garlic Butter Grilling Oil adds the final layer of richness, helping the surface brown while reinforcing the roasted-garlic flavor.
Three products. Three jobs. One delicious turkey breast.
Double Garlic Smoked Turkey Breast Recipe
Prep time: 20–30 minutes
Injection rest: Approximately 30 minutes, refrigerated
Estimated cook time: 2½–4 hours, depending on the size and thickness of the turkey breast
Smoker temperature: 275°F
Internal temperature: 165°F in the thickest part of the turkey breast
Servings: Approximately 6–8
Best smoking wood: Apple, cherry, or pecan
Turkey cut: 4–5 lb boneless turkey breast
The turkey will spend a few hours in the smoker, but actual cooking time varies. Always use a meat thermometer to determine doneness.
Ingredients
- 1 boneless turkey breast, approximately 4–5 lb
- 2 oz (¼ cup) Butcher BBQ Bird Booster Honey Injection powder
- 16 fl oz cold water, for preparing the injection
- 2–3 tablespoons Butcher BBQ Garlic Honey Rub, or enough to coat evenly
- 2–3 tablespoons Butcher BBQ Garlic Butter Grilling Oil, divided between preparation and finishing
Equipment
- Meat injector
- Smoker or pellet grill
- Digital meat thermometer
- Small bowl for the injection mixture
- Basting brush
- Cutting board and sharp slicing knife
Step 1: Prepare the Honey Bird Booster Injection
This is where we build flavor inside the turkey breast.
For the standard Butcher BBQ Bird Booster Honey Injection mixture, combine:
2 oz (¼ cup) dry Bird Booster Honey Injection powder with 16 fl oz cold water.
Stir until the powder is completely dissolved.
This makes a standard batch of injection mixture; you do not need to force the entire batch into a single turkey breast. Use the amount the meat comfortably accepts and discard any mixture contaminated by raw poultry.
The injection's mild honey flavor is designed to complement poultry without overpowering the meat.

Place the thawed turkey breast in a shallow pan to catch any excess injection.
Fill your meat injector with the prepared Honey Bird Booster mixture.
Insert the needle into the thickest part of the breast and slowly depress the plunger while gradually withdrawing the needle.
Move approximately 1–1½ inches and repeat.
Continue working across the breast in a grid pattern so the injection is distributed throughout the thick meat.
Pitmaster tip: Don't try to put too much injection into one spot. Several smaller injections spread across the breast work better than one large pocket of liquid.
Some injection may come back out of the needle holes. That's normal.
Once injected, cover and refrigerate the turkey for approximately 30 minutes while you prepare the smoker.
This is the first layer of our flavor combination: subtle honey inside the meat.
Step 3: Add the First Layer of Garlic
Now we're building the flavor on the outside.
Remove the injected turkey breast from the refrigerator and pat the surface lightly with paper towels.
Brush the outside with a thin layer of Butcher BBQ Garlic Butter Grilling Oil.
This gives the seasoning a surface to adhere to and starts our first garlic layer.
Next, apply Butcher BBQ Garlic Honey Rub evenly across the entire turkey breast.
Make sure to season the sides and any exposed folds of meat.
Allow the rub to sit for approximately 15–20 minutes while the smoker reaches temperature.
The garlic butter oil contributes richness, while the Garlic Honey Rub brings a savory garlic character balanced by honey.
Pitmaster tip: Because the turkey has already been injected, you don't need to add extra salt. Let the Butcher BBQ seasoning do the work.

Step 4: Smoke at 275°F
Preheat your smoker or pellet grill to 275°F.
I prefer apple or cherry wood for this recipe. Both provide a mild smoke flavor that works well with honey and garlic.
Place the turkey breast directly on the smoker grate over indirect heat.
Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast, avoiding contact with the grate or any bone.
Close the lid and let the smoker do its work.
For a 4–5 lb boneless turkey breast, plan approximately 2½–4 hours of cook time at 275°F. The turkey will spend a few hours in the smoker, allowing the mild smoking wood to develop flavor while the Garlic Honey Rub builds a golden, savory crust.
The exact cooking time depends on the thickness of the turkey breast, smoker performance, and outdoor conditions. Insert your thermometer into the thickest part of the meat and monitor the internal temperature throughout the cook.
Always rely on internal temperature rather than cooking time to determine when the turkey is done.
Step 5: Bring Back the Garlic Butter
When the turkey reaches approximately 145–150°F internally, check its color and seasoning crust.
If the outside has developed a nice golden color, lightly brush the turkey with another thin coat of Butcher BBQ Garlic Butter Grilling Oil.
This is the second garlic layer.
The Garlic Honey Rub has already built flavor on the surface. The Garlic Butter Grilling Oil adds a buttery, roasted-garlic finish.
Don't soak the turkey in oil. A light brushing is enough.
Close the smoker and continue cooking while monitoring the internal temperature in the thickest part of the turkey breast.
Pull the turkey from the smoker when the internal temperature reaches 165°F. This is the USDA-recommended minimum safe temperature for turkey breast.
If the surface begins browning too quickly before the turkey reaches its finishing temperature, loosely tent it with foil while it continues cooking.

Remove the turkey breast from the smoker when it reaches 165°F.
Place it on a clean cutting board and loosely tent with foil.
Let it rest approximately 10–15 minutes.
Resting gives the juices time to settle before slicing.
Cut the turkey across the grain into even slices.
You should have a golden garlic-seasoned exterior surrounding tender turkey breast with a mild honey flavor.
For a finishing touch, lightly brush the sliced turkey with a small amount of warmed Garlic Butter Grilling Oil just before serving.
What Does Double Garlic, Honey-Kissed Turkey Taste Like?
The first flavor you'll notice is the savory garlic from the rub and grilling oil.
Then comes the buttery richness.
Finally, the mild honey notes from the Bird Booster injection and Garlic Honey Rub help round out the flavor.
The honey isn't meant to dominate. It's there to soften the garlic and create a balanced sweet-savory bite.
That's what makes this recipe different from an ordinary garlic butter turkey breast.
The flavor is layered from the inside out.

Ask the Pitmaster: Smoked Turkey Breast Questions
How do you keep smoked turkey breast from drying out?
Start with a fully thawed turkey breast, inject it evenly with Butcher BBQ Bird Booster Honey Injection, and cook using a reliable meat thermometer. Smoke at 275°F and verify the thickest part reaches 165°F. Avoid cooking longer than necessary, and let the turkey rest before slicing.
Can you inject a turkey breast before smoking?
Yes. Injecting is an excellent way to add flavor to the thickest part of a turkey breast. Insert the needle in a grid pattern approximately 1–1½ inches apart, inject slowly, and distribute the mixture evenly. Keep the injected turkey refrigerated until cooking.
How do you mix Butcher BBQ Bird Booster Honey Injection?
Mix 2 oz (¼ cup) dry Bird Booster Honey Injection powder with 16 fl oz cold water. Stir until dissolved before filling the injector. Use the amount needed for your turkey and follow proper raw-poultry handling procedures.
Can I use Garlic Butter Grilling Oil and Garlic Honey Rub together?
Absolutely. Garlic Butter Grilling Oil adds buttery garlic flavor, while Garlic Honey Rub provides a savory-sweet seasoning crust. Together they create two complementary layers of garlic flavor.
Will the Honey Bird Booster make my turkey too sweet?
Bird Booster Honey Injection is designed to provide mild honey flavor, not a heavy sugary coating. Paired with garlic-forward seasoning, it helps create a balanced sweet-savory turkey breast.
Should I inject Garlic Butter Grilling Oil too?
For this recipe, I recommend injecting the Bird Booster Honey mixture and using Garlic Butter Grilling Oil on the outside. This keeps the preparation simple and gives each product a distinct role. Garlic Butter Grilling Oil can also be used as an injection in other recipes.
What is the best temperature to smoke turkey breast?
A smoker temperature of 275°F is a practical choice for a turkey breast. It provides time for smoke flavor to develop while cooking the meat steadily. Always use the internal temperature, not a fixed number of hours, to determine doneness.
How long does it take to smoke a 4–5 lb turkey breast?
At 275°F, a 4–5 lb boneless turkey breast may take approximately 2½–4 hours. Actual cooking time depends on thickness, shape, smoker conditions, and starting temperature. Cook until the thickest part reaches 165°F.
Can I make this recipe in the oven?
Yes. Prepare and inject the turkey the same way, then roast at approximately 325°F until it reaches 165°F internally. You won't get the wood-smoke flavor, but the honey, garlic, and butter flavors will still work together.
Can I use a bone-in turkey breast for this smoked turkey breast recipe?
Yes. A bone-in turkey breast works with the same Honey Bird Booster Injection, Garlic Honey Rub, and Garlic Butter Grilling Oil combination. However, a bone-in turkey breast may require a different cook time depending on its size and shape. Keep the smoker at 275°F and monitor the internal temperature in the thickest part of the breast without touching the bone. Cook until the meat reaches 165°F before removing it from the smoker.
A Turkey Recipe Even Garlic Lovers Will Remember
You don't need a dozen ingredients to make a turkey breast taste special.
Sometimes the secret is knowing where each flavor belongs.
The Honey Bird Booster goes inside the meat. The Garlic Honey Rub builds the crust. The Garlic Butter Grilling Oil ties everything together with buttery garlic richness.
The result is Double Garlic, Honey-Kissed Smoked Turkey Breast—a turkey recipe with enough garlic to satisfy the garlic lovers and just enough honey sweetness to bring everyone else back for another slice.
